Ayurvedic Understanding

Madhumeha is classified as one of the 20 types of Prameha (urinary disorders) in Ayurveda. It develops when kapha dosha vitiates medas dhatu (fat tissue) and mamsa dhatu (muscle tissue), leading to impaired agni (digestive fire) and accumulation of ama (toxins). The condition progresses through four stages: Sanchaya (accumulation), Prakopa (aggravation), Prasara (spread), and Sthana Samshraya (localization). Treatment focuses on pacifying kapha and vata while strengthening agni through bitter, astringent, and pungent foods, regular exercise, and herbal therapies like Gymnema sylvestre and bitter gourd.
