A range of conditions that affect the liver, including Fatty Liver and Cirrhosis.
Ayurvedic Understanding
Chronic liver disease (Yakrit Roga) in Ayurveda is a yakrit (liver) disorder caused by pitta aggravation combined with kapha obstruction and ama accumulation. It develops when pitta (fire) creates inflammation and damage to liver tissue, while kapha (mucus) causes fatty accumulation and ama (toxins) further impairs liver function. The condition progresses through stages of fatty liver, inflammation, fibrosis, and eventually cirrhosis. Treatment focuses on cooling pitta with bitter and astringent foods, reducing kapha through light diet, eliminating ama, and using liver-protective herbs like bhumi amla, kutki, guduchi, and phyllanthus. Avoiding alcohol, processed foods, and maintaining healthy weight are crucial.
