Ayurvedic Understanding
Crohn's disease (Grahani Dushti with Pitta Vriddhi) in Ayurveda is an annavaha srotas (digestive channel) disorder caused by aggravated pitta (fire) and vata (air) affecting the intestines. It develops when pitta creates inflammation and vata causes irregular movement, damaging the intestinal lining and impairing agni (digestive fire). The condition is characterized by abdominal pain, diarrhea, inflammation, and malabsorption. Treatment focuses on cooling pitta with sweet, bitter, and astringent foods, pacifying vata through regular routine, strengthening agni with digestive herbs, and using anti-inflammatory herbs like turmeric, aloe vera, and kutaja. Avoiding spicy, acidic, and processed foods is essential.
